You don’t have to go to an “oil change place”
Over the years we’ve found that a lot of our customers think they have to go to a quick-lube shop for their regular lube, oil and filter. Those places are sometimes a little cheaper or a little faster. But you’re getting nowhere near the same level of care and expertise, and they tend to push services you may or may not need.
Have a real mechanic do it instead, and take better care of your car in the same visit.
What you get with an oil change here
- The right oil for your engine, conventional or synthetic, and a new filter
- Fluids checked and topped off
- A look at the brakes, belts, hoses and lights
- A check underneath for leaks while the car is up in the air
- A clear picture of where your car stands, and anything worth planning for
You leave knowing more about your car than when you came in. That’s the difference between an oil change and a quick lube.

How often should you change your oil?
The old 3,000-mile rule doesn’t fit most cars anymore. Many newer engines run synthetic oil and go a good deal longer between changes, and a lot of cars now track it for you with an oil life monitor. Your owner’s manual has the real number. We’ll look it up for your make and model and tell you what we’d do.
A few things do shorten the interval: lots of short trips, stop-and-go traffic, towing, and turbocharged engines, which are harder on oil. If that sounds like your driving, a little early is better than a little late. Our post on why we do oil changes too goes into more detail.
Part of a bigger plan
Oil changes are the simplest piece of your car’s maintenance schedule, and the easiest time to keep an eye on everything else. When your car comes due for its bigger services, we handle those too. See scheduled maintenance for what’s typically due and when.
