It is so much more than a blue logo---it represents big things for the automotive industry.
The ASE is officially called the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence. ASE is a non-profit organization that has helped create high standards in automotive repair by aiming to make vehicle repair technicians better at their job. Since the 1970s ASE has been rigorously testing and certifying vehicle repair technicians. ASE certification helps both repair shops and customers gauge the experience of a repair technician. The ASE ensures that the people working on your car have a high level of skill. This also helps the technician because it creates an ability for them to obtain tangible proof of their expertise.
The ASE has been certifies technicians and the repair industry has created standards of knowledge that everyone whom works on cars should know. There is a measurable link between certification and the accuracy of repairs. ASE certification helps ensure that your car is repaired correctly every time and that you are working with a shop and technicians that have the experience to advise on your vehicle.
The certification process is extensive. It involves passing a complex text (which only 2 out of 3 test takers pass their first attempt) and requiring two years of on-the-job training or one year of training and a two year degree in automotive repair.
